Miyoo Mini Plus Review: Still the Best Budget Handheld in 2026?

What Is the Miyoo Mini Plus?

The Miyoo Mini Plus is a pocket-sized retro gaming handheld that runs OnionOS — a custom firmware that turns it into a polished emulation machine capable of playing everything from NES to PS1.

At around $70, it's the most popular budget handheld in the retro gaming community. But with new competitors arriving in 2026, does it still deserve the crown?

Design & Build Quality

The Miyoo Mini Plus looks like a shrunk-down Game Boy Advance SP. It's small enough to fit in a jeans pocket and light enough to play for hours without fatigue.

Build quality is decent for the price — the buttons are clicky and responsive, though the shoulder buttons feel a bit hollow. The 3.5-inch IPS display is the real star, with punchy colors and excellent viewing angles.

Emulation Performance

  • NES/SNES/Genesis — Flawless. Full speed with no frame drops.
  • GBA — Perfect. This is arguably the best GBA emulation handheld at this price.
  • PS1 — Most games run great. Occasional slowdowns in 3D-heavy titles.
  • N64 — Not recommended. The chipset can't handle it reliably.

The Verdict

The Miyoo Mini Plus remains our top pick for budget retro handhelds in 2026. The screen quality, OnionOS polish, and pocket-friendly size make it hard to beat — especially at this price point.

If you need N64 or Dreamcast support, look at the Retroid Pocket 4 instead. But for everything up to PS1, this is the one to get.
